Our Mission
Priority number one here at Live Local is to promote and thereby strengthen local economies. To us that means, foremost, placing money directly in the hands of local businesses and local farmers. Simple, right? Maybe not. We think that there's more to it than that. Every grocery store, café, coffee shop, bar, or hot dog stand has a place in our local economy. Each of these business employs a few or sometimes dozens or occasionally hundreds of workers -- all of whom are part of the local economy. These people work hard and spend their wages mostly at places right where they live. Some of these businesses are owned locally, others are not. Each, though, holds an important place in a local economy. That chain restaurant down the street might not buy a single leaf of lettuce from local growers but the guy waiting tables there is a part of the local economy. (We won't bring up the fact that all the profits from that chain place are heading out of the local economy.)
We here at Live Local, as a rule, aren't against big business in agriculture or in food service. We aren't looking to end interstate commerce. We are 100% in favor of local business in both agriculture and food service. We have pretty simple standards. If a restaurant or grocery store is owned locally - we like 'em (but think that they should look into adding some locally grown choices). If an out of state (or even internationally owned) place buys their fruits, vegetables and meat from mostly local sources - we like them too. If a business is locally owned and buys all their produce and meat from local growers and ranchers - we absolutely adore them!
